Heating and HVAC Service in La Honda, CA

The short answer

EliteAir Heating & Cooling serves La Honda, about 19 miles west of our San Jose base in San Mateo County. Our focus there is dependable heating, from furnace repair to heat pump and ductless installs, plus maintenance, duct cleaning and air quality work.

La Honda is a small unincorporated community in San Mateo County, about 19 miles west of San Jose on the far side of the hills that separate the valley from the coast. Out there, homes are spread out, roads are slow and the weather is usually cooler and wetter than anything a valley thermostat sees. EliteAir Heating & Cooling makes the trip for heating repair, heat pump and ductless installations, cooling work, maintenance and air quality projects. Because every visit takes planning, we try to get the diagnosis and the fix done in as few trips as possible.

A cooler, wetter side of the hills

The valley floor around San Jose follows a Mediterranean pattern of dry summers and mild, damp winters, and the inland stretches get hot in July. La Honda sits west of that, closer to the ocean, and its summers are generally far less demanding. Heat is the system that matters most. Many homes need it on cool summer evenings as well as through the long wet season.

Damp air, shade from tall trees and older construction all raise the heating load. Ductwork under raised floors and in unconditioned spaces loses warmth, and moisture can degrade insulation over time. When we evaluate a La Honda home, we look at the building as much as the equipment.

Getting the most out of one visit

A long drive means a second trip for a missing part costs everyone time. When you call, a few details help us bring the right parts and tools the first time.

  • Brand and model number from the furnace, heat pump or wall unit label, or a photo of it
  • What the system is doing: no heat, short cycling, strange noise, smell or error code
  • Whether the home uses natural gas, propane or electric heat
  • Access notes such as a steep driveway, a locked gate or a crawlspace entry
  • Any recent power outages or storms before the problem started

Repairing the heat you already have

Furnace calls here often trace back to the basics: a dirty flame sensor, a failed hot surface igniter, a blocked flue, a tripped limit switch or a blower motor wearing out after years of long winter cycles. We repair what is broken, test combustion and check carbon monoxide levels throughout the house.

For heat pumps, cool and humid weather keeps the defrost cycle busy. A faulty defrost sensor or board can let ice build on the outdoor coil until heating output drops off. Keeping the unit raised above wet ground and clear of leaves helps it shed water and run efficiently.

Ductless heat pumps for spread-out homes

Older rural houses frequently grew in stages, and the result can be rooms the central system barely reaches. Ductless mini-split heat pumps let us add heating and cooling exactly where it is needed. Each head runs on its own, so a family can warm the main living area and a bedroom without heating unused space.

Mini-splits also make sense where a wood stove has been the main heat source. They provide steady, controllable warmth for the rooms the stove leaves cold and take some of the work off the fire on wet nights.

What the Air District rules mean out here

San Mateo County is part of the Bay Area Air District. Its Rule 9-4 requires natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 to meet a zero-NOx standard, so a homeowner replacing a gas furnace after that date will most likely be looking at a heat pump. The rules do not require replacing equipment that still works.

The federal 25C credit no longer applies to heat pumps installed after 2025. BayREN and your local clean energy provider may offer electrification incentives from time to time; we confirm the current offer before putting it in a quote.

Air quality, ducts and nearby communities

Damp homes benefit from clean, sealed ductwork and good filtration. We handle duct cleaning, duct repair, filter upgrades and other indoor air quality improvements, and we keep up with seasonal HVAC maintenance so small faults are caught before winter. Coming from San Jose, our routes also pass through Los Altos Hills, Los Altos, Mountain View, Cupertino and Saratoga.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Measure first

Temperatures, pressures, electrical readings and airflow come before any recommendation, so the fix addresses the actual fault.

  2. Show and explain

We point out failed parts or readings, describe what they mean, and answer questions until the choice makes sense to you.

  3. Respect the home

Floor protection, careful attic and closet work, and a cleaned-up space before we leave are standard on every visit.
